Paula Downard:

"I have been a keen gardener for over 20 years, endlessly fascinated by plants and how best to grow them. Having taken a break from my previous career (in stock control for a large DIY chain) to look after my growing family, I produced plants and homegrown bouquets of cut flowers for a few years. In 2002 I completed an HNC in Garden Design at Sparsholt College, and since then I have had the pleasure of designing a range of gardens including

  • a long narrow garden for a young family
  • large mixed borders for a walled garden
  • planting schemes for a terraced garden on a steep slope
  • a low-maintenance garden with raised beds for an elderly client
  • gardens on a variety of soils including acid soils, heavy clay and chalk
  • a primary school garden
  • a communal garden for a block of flats.
